HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Liverpool Meeting.

The Annual Meeting of BSPR was held in Liverpool, in November 2003.
Dr Laurence Abernethy organised a very interesting programme and the meeting was well attended. The winner of the Claire Dicks-Mireaux Prize was Dr Yvett Gribbin; the paper was titled “Pulmonary Tuberculosis in a Community College Outbreak”.

Radiology Academies.

At the AGM Dr Steve Chapman gave a presentation describing the proposed Radiology Academies which would be based in 3 centres and involve e-learning. BSPR members were asked to contribute to the preparation of topics for e-learning. Anyone interested could contact Dr Chapman e-mail address: steve.chapman@bhamchildrens.wmids.nhs.uk.

Multiple Choice Questions.

The Royal College of Radiologists have asked BSPR for MCQs for the final examination for FRCR. BSPR members are invited to contribute 1 or 2 MCQs and send them to Dr S MacKenzie. Guidelines for setting MCQs have been posted on the BSPR website.

National Awards.

Any member, who has been put forward for a national award, may contact Dr Kieran McHugh who can prepare a citation on their behalf. The deadline is 31st January 2004.

NAI Standard for Imaging.

Recent papers have recommended CT of the head routinely along with the skeletal survey in the investigation of children. It was agreed at the AGM to include this recommendation in non-ambulant children in the standard for NAI imaging posted on the website.

The minutes of the AGM are posted on the website.

Sedation.

The RCR sedation document has been published. Dr McHugh was a member of the RCR Sedation Working Party which prepared the document and has asked for any comments or criticism to be sent to him.

Elections.

Dr Alan Sprigg (Convenor) has completed his 2nd term and Dr Stephanie MacKenzie has completed her 1st term on the Executive Committee. Both vacancies are for clinical radiologists with a majority of sessions in paediatric radiology, one of which will be the RCPCH Convenor. Nominations are invited for these vacancies. The closing date is 31st January 2004. Nominations must be accompanied by a letter from a proposer, seconder and the nominee and sent to:
