  1. Matters Arising from Minutes of previous meeting held on Monday, 28th April 2003.

    (i) Dr Kieran McHugh reported that the RCR document on sedation had been published but was not yet on the RCR website yet.

(ii) Nephostomies: - Reference was made to a recent letter published in Clinical Radiology which stated that the procedure for percutaneous nephrostomy was straight forward and a radiologist could be competent without performing large numbers. The committee was in agreement with this.

  2. NPSA - National Patient Safety Association.
Dr J Dyet and Dr B Ayres, Radiologists on the NPSA, wished to speak to the BSPR membership regarding the NPSA including the reporting of incidents. Dr McHugh was under the impression there was to be a talk the following day at the scientific meeting about the NPSA.

  3. Convenor’s Report.
Dr Sprigg reported that the Head Ultrasound standard has not been formally endorsed by the R.C.P.C.H. The NAI session at the RCPCH annual meeting in York was very successful and well attended. BSPR is to organise a session on chest imaging for the 2004 meeting.

  4. MCQs
Dr S. Mackenzie reported that the MCQ questions submitted by BSPR were well received and BSPR have been asked to submit more. The deadline is May 2004. Members of BSPR are to be asked submit 1 or 2 questions each by email to Dr K. Duncan or Dr S. MacKenzie. The committee will go over the MCQs at the next meeting in April 2004. The instructions will be put on the BSPR website.

  5. Website Update
Dr McHugh is to look into making posting emails on the website easier.

  6. H.R.G. (Healthcare Resource Groups).
Dr McHugh had received a letter from Dr Pete Gaines, interventional radiologist from Sheffield, saying that the more complex interventional procedures were not well costed in the NHS. Dr K. McHugh is to ask to Dr. L. Abernethy to liaise with Dr Gaines about costing these procedures and HRGs.

  7. SIGs Meeting.
MBUR 6 is to be prepared in 2004 using the Delphi process.
Dr K. Johnson and Dr J. Fairhurst are to write an article on Paediatric Radiology for the Subspecialty Corner in Clinical Radiology.

  8. Skeletal Surveys.
The routine use of CT of the head as part of the skeletal survey in NAI: this is to be brought up at the AGM. Dr Sue King wrote a letter to the RCR stating that the NAI Standards are already on the BSPR website. The letter is to be published in Clinical Radiology.

They will be based in 3 centres (Norwich, Leeds and Plymouth). The paediatric section will be led by Dr S. Chapman withDr K. McHugh, Dr R. Arthur and Dr A. Sprigg as sub-editors. BSPR members are to be asked to contribute to the preparations of 120–140 paediatric topics for e-learning.

There was discussion about competency based assessment in paediatric radiology. Dr K. Duncan reported that competency based assessment in breast screening did not work. It was decided not to pursue this further at present.
